As a
volunteer for Hoops Care International, you get the opportunity to
work along with a young and dynamic organization that is facing a major challenge. We
are looking for motivated volunteers that are ready to accept the
challenge and take full initiative. Administrative, communicative
and leadership skills are highly appreciated.
The task
that is ahead of us, launching a nation wide basketball program
involves a lot of work. Brainstorming, planning, administration,
execution of action points and organizing events will be the daily
activities of a volunteer. With are new office in Cape Coast, a
good working environment is created that will help you to work
effectively, comfortably and with a great return of investment.
Any
affiliation with basketball is appreciated, but far from necessary.
People with vision, organization skills and a good work ethics can
help HCI evolve into a professional non profit organization that has
the capacity to reach out to the Ghanaian youth and thereby enhance
the future of the country.
As a HCI
volunteer, you will be accommodated in a guest family in Cape Coast
that is carefully screened. The guest family will provide you with
three meals a day, adjusted to your taste. This is for the simple
reason that volunteers from abroad might have difficulties with some
of the local dishes. If there is any problem, HCI staff can always
be contacted for guidance and mediation.
Generally, you will have Sundays off, to rest and enjoy the typical
Ghanaian activities, attend church, do some sightseeing or take a
refreshing stroll on the beach. Of course, there is also time for
you to travel throughout the country. Visit the waterfalls in the
west, the mountains in the east or go up to the north to see
elephants and crocodiles in the Mole National Park. Apart from all
the natural beauties, you can also find out more about the culture
and history of Ghana. There are many festivals and the
Castles in the Central region that are of great historic value to our
world.
A local
HCI volunteer will function as a guide whenever that is requested,
so that you can always find your way around town and thereby use
your time effectively. Your guide will be standby and can be
contacted by phone to assist you on any matter.
The work
you do is very rewarding. The interaction with the kids, weather it
is in basketball or education/leisure activities is great. You will
feel that the appreciation and admiration the response of the
children contains is an unforgettable experience. They are eager to
learn from you on all aspects of life.
The costs
Hoops
Care International seeks to keep costs for volunteers as low as
possible. The guest family you are in will gain a small margin by
your coming as will HCI. No donations will be asked from you during
your stay.
Note:
For volunteers with a significant basketball related resume a
subsidy can be considered. If volunteer wishes to stay longer than
expected the costs he or she is free to do so, the costs will then
be recalculated. A stay longer than 12 weeks is also possible. In
that case, simply ask for the specific costs.
